Home Theater

Below is a list of the gear used in my home theater.

Yamaha RX-V385
AV Receiver

I got this amazing AVR back in October 2025. It does 6-channel surround sound, and I have everything connected to this. My Apple TV is hooked up here, my 4K Player, and my second PC. I also have my CD player, my stereo, tape deck, and turntable all hooked up here either via coaxial and RCA. It delivers crisp and clear sound and it goes for around $350. I do plan to upgrade eventually to a 9.2-channel AVR so I can do either 5.1.2 or 7.1.2 for Dolby Atmos.

Front Speakers

I've upgraded from three different pairs of speakers and I finally got these back in December. These sounds GREAT, and I got them for $93.40.

Polk Audio CS-10
Center Channel Speaker

I used to use an old left channel speaker as my center channel for years up until last Christmas. This center speaker is remarkable. I got this for $68.43, but you can probably find it cheaper.

Sony SS-SR151
Surround Speakers

I've had these since I began making my home theater back in June of 2024. I haven't upgraded these and I don't plan to, unless I get a Dolby Atmos setup in the future. I plan on doing possibly 5.1.2 or 7.1.2, but finding an AVR that is affordable and can do that will be very difficult. Overall, these are great surround speakers, and I got them for $35.20.

Subwoofer

I also haven't replaced this subwoofer. I got this subwoofer in December of 2024 and this was the final piece to my 5.1 setup at the time. I refuse to upgrade this at the moment because it delivers incredible and punchy bass. I have this on the carpet in my basement as opposed to on a higher surface. Low frequencies are omni-directional, so it doesn't matter if it is aimed at me or aimed elsewhere. It is preferred to have a subwoofer on a carpeted/foam surface instead of wood or glass because they can absorb those low frequencies and deliver mediocre performance. I got this subwoofer for $63.75

Apple TV
Streaming Box

This is CRUCIAL to my setup. I am part of the AppleApple ecosystem, with an iPhone, iPad, MacBook, and many other AppleApple devices. I have this connected via HDMI to my AVR, and for music I'll either listen via VLC on here with my preferred FLAC files or via Apple Music with either Lossless audio enabled or Dolby Atmos if the album I am listening to supports either of them. I obviously do not have a Dolby Atmos setup quite yet, but spatial audio is incredible and hearing albums in surround sound -- despite not having height channels -- is still amazing if the mix is good. I got this as a gift in 2024 and it cost $129.
Apple TV
Hisense 45'' Roku TV
Television

I've had this TV in my basement for a few years and I eventually plan on upgrading to maybe a 55''. It has Dolby Vision support, which is EXCELLENT. It is ceiling mounted, and cost somewhere between $150-$250.
